Hope you have had a wonderful Labor Day! Your September Calendar download is here.
September is here. Let’s get ready to start with these themes in September.
- Week 1: Routines & sleep hygiene (post-holiday reset).
- Week 2: Stress care & connection (includes Sept 10 – World Suicide Prevention Day; normalize sharing the 988 Lifeline).
- Week 3: Heart-smart basics (BP goals, fiber, movement snacks, sodium audit).
- Week 4: Fall readiness (vaccines plan, meal prep, med list sharing).
Sept 1 (Labor Day) –“Labor Day Reset: What’s one healthy routine you want to bring into your fall wellness? Sleep? Movement? Meals?”
Let’s look at some of the recognitions in September. A few things we will hear about this month are :
Cancers. Several cancers are highlighted this month including: Prostate, Blood, Childhood, and Ovarian. What are you planning to be more proactive on?
It’s National Suicide Prevention Month. How are we taking care of our minds? We have had calendars that have helped us work on mindfulness. Are we paying attention to those we love and care for? On your blank calendar, put down some things that work for you. I personally love yoga and it’s also National Yoga Month. Have you have tried yoga?
Healthy Aging Month. Working on advocacy for yourself and being proactive will help keep you healthy. Just being aware and asking questions will help us all continue to feel empowered and to be healthy as we age.
Healthy Food & Lifestyle Awareness. That saying that goes, “We are what we eat!” Yes! So many diseases can be prevented with healthier choices. The “Mediterranean Diet” has been shown to be healthy and effective in keeping us healthy. Do you have a favorite diet you are following?
Sickle-Cell Awareness. Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that primarily affects people of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian descent. Sickle Cell Awareness aims to educate about the condition, promote early detection, and support those living with its health challenges.
Pain Awareness Month focuses on increasing understanding of chronic pain conditions and advocating for improved pain management. Chronic pain affects an estimated 50 million adults in the United States, underscoring the importance of awareness and support.
This September, in honor of Labor Day and the spirit of self-empowerment, I’m offering extra support for anyone wanting to grow in self-advocacy. If this is your birthday month (or even next month), it’s the perfect time to re-think how we approach the medical arena.
